Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. What did you do today to make it extra special for your mom?
We didn’t do too much besides going out for a fancier lunch after church. The weather was not cooperating and we are still on the mend, so we haven’t really been doing much in the last few days. We had some Shanghai food for lunch, and it was yummy. Have you ever tried xiao long bao? It’s steamed dumplings with soup inside. This is a favorite Shanghai dish. You should try it if you haven’t already. It’s really good, just be careful to not let the hot soup burn your tongue!
Last Friday, it was Ilia’s class’ turn to lead chapel. The school has chapel every Friday where all the kids would get together to sing and worship God. Ilia’s been saying how excited she was for her class to lead chapel and she couldn’t wait. I had no idea what they were going to do. All I knew was that it involved singing. I was thoroughly surprised that the kids actually did a skit and not only that, Ilia was actually one of the 3 narrators! All the kids worked so hard and they did a fantastic job. Kudos to their teacher for spending hours and hours practicing with the kids. It takes a lot of patience and organization to get a group of 20 5-year old children to perform something like that.
Ilia’s been complaining about her skates being too tight for the last couple weeks, so we finally bought her a new pair. We didn’t realized that they needed to be sharpen before ice time, so when Ilia wore them this morning for her skating lesson, she couldn’t skate properly. She could barely move on the ice and kept falling. It almost seemed like she was in the beginners’ class all over again. Poor girl! Once we got them sharpened up, she was much better. She still looked a bit stiff while skating across the ice, but hopefully once the leather softens, she’ll be fine. Her teacher told me that Ilia was actually doing great with the pair of new skates because when the teacher got a new pair before, she fell backwards when trying them out for the first time.
